A mysterious gray goo has killed more than 200 San Francisco Bay birds

California officials are baffled by a sticky mystery — more than 200 birds have been found dead and more rescued after they became covered in an unknown gray goo-like substance. . . . For now, wildlife volunteers are working to find and save as many birds as they can, said Deb Self, the executive director of Baykeeper, a conservation group.
