Volunteer with Baykeeper for Coastal Cleanup Day On Saturday

Join San Francisco Baykeeper for the 26th Annual California Coastal Cleanup Day! We will be hosting a shoreline cleanup at India Basin Shoreline Park for the third year in a row to address the serious marine debris problem that disproportionately impacts San Francisco's eastern shoreline. During our 2009 cleanup, volunteers collected more than 1,000 pounds of trash from this park! We need your help, so please come out and join us for this family-friendly event.

TransBay Relay Benefit Swim Is A Great Success for the Bay!

Congratulations to the fantastic swimmers who swam the TransBay Relay on Sunday! Twenty-two participants, on relay teams or solo, launched from the Golden Gate, headed east toward Alcatraz and never looked back (except to enjoy the view). These hearty swimmers braved nine miles of chilly Bay waters to raise nearly $10,000 for Baykeeper's work to protect the Bay from pollution. Thank you to the swimmers, pilots and supporters who helped make this a great success for the health of San Francisco Bay.

Volunteers Needed for Outreach to East Bay Stores

San Francisco Baykeeper is seeking volunteers to reach out to local East Bay retailers to invite them to participate in our annual campaign to educate customers about keeping leftover fats, oils and grease out of sink drains. Every winter, the holiday cooking season results in clogged sewer pipes that can cause sewage spills to the Bay. Baykeeper partners with East Bay Municipal Utility District to ask local stores to display information about the proper disposal and recycling of leftover cooking oil.

San Francisco Baykeeper is proud to sponsor Bay for the Gulf, a food and wine event to raise funds for Save Our Gulf and the efforts of the Gulf Coast Waterkeepers as they continue to respond to the impacts of the BP oil disaster. By now many of you have seen San Francisco Baykeeper's latest print newsletter in your mailbox. Didn't get your copy?
