Speak Up for a Sound Climate Change Policy for the Bay
By 2050, the Bay may experience as much as a sixteen inch rise in sea level as a result of climate change, and it is vital to protect Bay wetlands that can provide a buffer against rising water levels. BCDC is considering a policy revision that would sensibly require all shoreline development proposals to take into account potential sea level rise. Predictably, the policy is facing huge opposition from development interests led by Cargill. BCDC needs to hear from residents that support sustainable development around the Bay. Please join us in supporting a sound climate change policy for the Bay. The next public hearing is tomorrow, Thursday, November 18, at 1 pm in the Ferry Building, San Francisco. More hearings will be held over the next several months. To RSVP and for more information, please contact Ian Wren, Staff Scientist, at ian@baykeeper.org or (415) 856-0444 x108. |
Take Action to Protect Fish from California Power Plants
Now, industry representatives are back again, fighting for the same loopholes and delays that the State Water Board previously rejected. Please take a moment before noon tomorrow, Thursday, November 18, to ask the State Water Board to deny industry's proposed amendments and to keep in place the healthy policy they already approved. Click here to join California Coastkeeper Alliance in calling for a power plant policy that protects our marine ecosystem. Take action by noon tomorrow! |
